CHEAP DRUG HOPE 4 BREAST CANCER
Cheap drug hope for breast cancer
In the UK, almost 46,000 new cases of breast cancer are diagnosed each year
A combination of two inexpensive existing drugs may offer a new way to treat breast cancer, according to UK and Finnish researchers.
The common chemotherapy drug and a brittle bone medicine almost completely stopped the growth of tumours in mice.
The Journal of the National Cancer Institute said the combination cost a twentieth of Herceptin, given to breast cancer patients by the NHS.
Specialists said the results of human trials now under way would be crucial.
The results of this study could change the way breast cancer patients are treated

In the UK, almost 46,000 new cases of breast cancer are diagnosed each year.
Although modern treatments mean that cases caught sufficiently early, some via breast screening programmes, have an excellent chance of being successfully treated.
The study was a joint project between researchers at the University of Sheffield and the Kuopio University in Finland.
Its findings could offer an even more effective way to help some patients.
It used a dose of the drug doxorubicin, a common component of chemotherapy regimes, followed 24 hours later by zoledronic acid, currently given to osteoporosis patients.
In the mice, this stopped 99.99% of new cancer cell growth in tumours.
It is thought the first drug could be "priming" the tumour to be more sensitive to the cancer-cell killing qualities of the second drug.
Dr Ingunn Holen, who led the study, said that the study showed that the drug cocktail could "kill breast tumours".
"These results show that a patient may benefit the most if these two drugs are given in this particular order."
She said that the results of a human trial were expected later this year.
Speed advantage
If that proves successful, the drugs would not have to undergo a lengthy licensing process, simply have the change of use included in their current licence.
Breast Cancer Campaign, the charity which funded the study, said it was encouraged by the potential for the drug to be made swiftly available to women.
Its chief executive, Pamela Goldberg, said: "The results of this study could change the way breast cancer patients are treated.
"The good news is the that the two treatments are relatively inexpensive and already used in the clinic."
A spokesman for Cancer Research UK said that a study in humans would be important.
"Establishing the most effective combinations of drug treatments and the timings in which they are given is an important area of clinical research.
"But the benefits of giving zoledronic acid after doxorubicin have only been shown here in mice and now need to be evaluated more fully in people with breast cancer."
USA & BUSH
US forces to deliver Georgia aid
Mr Bush says the US stands by Georgia's 'democratically elected government'
President George W Bush has said the US will use military aircraft and naval forces to deliver aid to Georgia following its conflict with Russia.
Speaking in Washington, he expressed concern about reports of continuing Russian action in Georgia, and urged Russia to respect a ceasefire accord.
Mr Bush hinted that Russia could be jeopardising its international ties.
The first US C-17 military aircraft has landed in Tbilisi carrying medical and other supplies.
The Kremlin said the US must choose between partnership with Moscow, or with the Georgian leadership.
"At some time it will be necessary to choose between supporting this virtual project and [a] real partnership on questions which actually require collective action," said Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.
The BBC's Caroline Wyatt, in Moscow, says the Kremlin's reaction suggests they have been bitterly stung by Mr Bush's comments.
But she says Mr Lavrov spoke in the knowledge that the US is unlikely to back up its verbal support for Georgia with any more concrete action.
See map of the region
The crisis erupted late on 7 August when Georgian forces bombarded South Ossetia to restore Tbilisi's control over the region, where the majority of people hold Russian passports.
Russia quickly became involved, bombing targets in Georgia and sending in troops. Some 100,000 people are estimated to have been displaced by the conflict.

Feeling vindicated in Moscow
A French-brokered ceasefire has been in place between Russia and Georgia since Tuesday, but each side has accused the other of breaking the accord.
Mr Bush said Russia's actions had "raised serious questions about its intentions in Georgia and the region".
"To begin to repair the damage to its relations with the United States, Europe and other nations, and to begin restoring its place in the world, Russia must keep its word and act to end this crisis."
He said he had ordered a series of steps to demonstrate "solidarity with the Georgian people", including sending Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice to Tbilisi later this week, and launching a "vigorous and ongoing" humanitarian mission.
A C-17 aircraft with humanitarian supplies was already on its way to Georgia, Mr Bush said, and in the following days military aircraft and naval forces would deliver humanitarian and medical supplies.
The BBC's Natalia Antelava, in Tbilisi, says Mr Bush's speech was the first piece of good news the Georgian government had received for days.
But she said Tbilisi's schools and nurseries were crammed with refugees, many of whom were angry with their leaders for dragging them into a conflict with Russia.
'Dismantling artillery'
Following Mr Bush's statement, Ms Rice, who will hold talks in France before heading to Tbilisi, also had tough words, saying Russia had "seriously overreached" itself.
Russian and Georgian forces have been seen on the main Gori-Tbilisi road
She told a news conference: "This is not 1968 and the invasion of Czechoslovakia where Russia can threaten a neighbour, occupy a capital, overthrow a government and get away with it. Things have changed."
Mr Lavrov responded robustly to US criticism of Russia's continuing military action, admitting that his troops were still inside Georgia near both Gori and the town of Senaki, near the other secessionist region of Abkhazia.
He said Russian peacekeepers were dismantling a "huge amount of armaments, ammunition and explosives" that had been left unattended.
"This arsenal has to be defused of course so that it cannot pose any threat to civilians," he said.
'Massacres on our doorstep'
France, which currently holds the EU presidency, has been spearheading diplomatic efforts to solve the crisis.
President Nicolas Sarkozy visited both Tbilisi and Moscow on Tuesday, and succeeded in getting both sides to agree to the principles of a peace plan.
Russian President Dmitry Medvedev had announced a halt to military action shortly before meeting Mr Sarkozy.
EU foreign ministers have been discussing the peace plan, and have agreed to send a group of monitors or peacekeepers to Georgia to monitor the ceasefire - but they want the UN to back the proposal first.
"The European Union cannot be indifferent to this war, these massacres on our doorstep," said French Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner.
UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon said the UN was ready to facilitate international talks and contribute to possible peacekeeping arrangements in the region. .
STRESS
Stretching...
Stretching daily will help keep you limber, your joints and muscles flexible and prevent serious injury should you fall. This is especially important as we age. I am currently focusing on stretching exercises this week (and last week) on my blog.
During your shower...
Take your shower at your normal water temperature. When you are finished, instead of just turning the tap off; turn it down to a cooler setting for 5 seconds, then back to where you were, then back to cool for 5 seconds, then to off. This temperature variance will help increase your blood circulation as well as refresh you.
Gently exfoliate your skin with a washcloth (or loofah) to slough off dead skin cells, stimulate circulation and increase lymph drainage. Work toward the heart, starting with the extremities and then the torso. There is no need to rub vigourously or apply excessive pressure.
Water before meals...
Drink a glass of water about 30 minutes before your main meals -- it will help to control your appetite by creating a sense of 'fullness', thereby reducing the amount of food you intake at your meal. This is a simple, easy to apply, weight loss strategy.
How often should I drink water?
Drink small amounts of water throughout the entire day instead of guzzling large amounts at one sitting. It is easier for the body to assimilate and utilize the water in smaller quantities. As the body 'learns' that it can trust you to supply water for its functioning, it will store less for the future (as in reduced water retention). Water closer to body temperature is absorbed into the system faster than cold or hot water.
Water with Lemon
Drink a glass of water (warm or cool) upon awakening, with lemon – this helps flush your body’s systems and get everything flowing for the day. Wait approximately 30 minutes before eating anything else.
How much water should I drink?
A general guideline for how much water you should drink to keep your body hydrated for optimal health (cell function, lubrication, detoxification, absorptions of vitamins and minerals ...) is:
HOW BEAUTIFUL R BIRDS?
Satisfaction lies in effort, not in the attainment; full effort is full victory."
“A human being is part of a whole, called by us the Universe, a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feelings, as something separated from the rest a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest us. Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circles of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty.”

THE POWER OF LOVELOVE
Love doesn’t ask “why” for it reason itself. Love doesn’t ask “what” for it’s willing to risk at all. Love doesn’t ask “until when” for it knows only forever.
. When you love, there’s no such thing as loving a little, but loving all the way. It may not ask you to give up your life but requires lots of sacrifices.
. A kiss is a lovely trick designated by nature to stop speech when words become unnecessary. Just be sure that those lips will only kiss the person whom you truly love and care about.
. Be careful to whom you give your heart to because when you give your heart to someone, you’re not only giving that person the right to love you, but the power to hurt you.
A life without love is no life at all. -Ever after
Heavy is the sorrow that bows the head when love is alive and hope is dead.
. Anyone can make a fool of themselves, but not anyone can go up to a person and tell them that they love them.
Love is true, love is kind, if you don’t look for love, you’ll be left behind.
How would you know if he really loves you? It’s when you scream, he’s calm. When you slap him, he kisses you. When you cry, he hugs you. When you tell him you hate him, he tells you he loves you.
Love means letting the other person grow even if it means letting go.
Love is the purest of human emotions. Those who have it must treasure it as if it is their own life because, in some respects, it is…
. Why is it that everyone looks at him and doesn’t see how wonderful he is? Because I saw it the first time I laid eyes on him. I guess that’s why you call it falling in love.
. Let our love be not compared to a flower that only blooms in the summer, but a river that flows forever.
If you love someone, set him free if he comes back, he’s yours. If he doesn’t, he never was.
In the course of love, one’s heart must be brave, brave enough to let go when they realize that things are not meant to be.
What’s this called love? Love is the melody that breathes passion into a song or the rhyme that spells magic into poem. Unless you love someone nothing else make any sense.
Love is something special, a treasure I want to find, to others love is blind for me it’s not true because when i fell in love I saw you.
Smile can make people glad. Love can make people trust. Hare can make people mad… but friends? They make life living for. Glad you’re my friend.
I always dream, I tend to be happy, but my dreams won’t fit my eyes, that’s why they fell and became tears, because you are the dream that is out of my reach.
. If you ask me how much I care for you… I won’t say anything. I’ll just take your hand and fill the gaps between your fingers and hold on to you until all your doubts are gone.
Friends are like coals on fire, together they glow apart, they die out. Hope the glow that we have won’t ever die out. You and I, are friends for life.
Though we are miles apart, you are always in my heart. I close my eyes and you where there. Even if I’ll see you never, I’ll always be here to care for you… far longer than forever…Promise.
Kapag ikaw Sad nandito lang ako, kapag away ka nila, away ko sila, wala ako pakialam kung maging madami man kaaway ko, basta alam ko you’re special, kaya ayaw ko mahurt ka, love kita eh.
Knowing you has always been a mystery… I don’t know how do we came this far. But whatever the reason may be, somehow you brought meaning to my life.
I am an angel kicked from heaven kasi nakagawa ako ng bad, kaya may punishment ako. Bantayan daw kita para magbago ka. Pwede wag ka na magbago para di na ako kunin sayo? Ok lang ba?
A day may start or end without a message from me but believe, it won’t start or end without me thinking of you. See, I just did.
Trying to fix us, i did something even better, I fixed the broken pieces of me.

Washington
George Washington
Born: 2/22/1732Birthplace: Westmoreland County, Va.
George Washington was born on Feb. 22, 1732 (Feb. 11, 1731/2, old style) in Westmoreland County, Va. While in his teens, he trained as a surveyor, and at the age of 20 he was appointed adjutant in the Va. militia. For the next three years, he fought in the wars against the French and Indians, serving as Gen. Edward Braddock's aide in the disastrous campaign against Ft. Duquesne. In 1759, he resigned from the militia, married Martha Dandridge Custis, a widow with children, and settled down as a gentleman farmer at Mount Vernon, Va.
As a militiaman, Washington had been exposed to the arrogance of the British officers, and his experience as a planter with British commercial restrictions increased his anti-British sentiment. He opposed the Stamp Act of 1765 and after 1770 became increasingly prominent in organizing resistance. A delegate to the Continental Congress, Washington was selected as commander in chief of the Continental Army and took command at Cambridge, Mass., on July 3, 1775.
Inadequately supported and sometimes covertly sabotaged by the Congress, in charge of troops who were inexperienced, badly equipped, and impatient of discipline, Washington conducted the war on the policy of avoiding major engagements with the British and wearing them down by harassing tactics. His able generalship, along with the French alliance and the growing weariness within Britain, brought the war to a conclusion with the surrender of Cornwallis at Yorktown, Va., on Oct. 19, 1781.
The chaotic years under the Articles of Confederation led Washington to return to public life in the hope of promoting the formation of a strong central government. He presided over the Constitutional Convention and yielded to the universal demand that he serve as first president. He was inaugurated on April 30, 1789, in New York, the first national capital. In office, he sought to unite the nation and establish the authority of the new government at home and abroad. Greatly distressed by the emergence of the Hamilton-Jefferson rivalry, Washington worked to maintain neutrality but actually sympathized more with Hamilton. Following his unanimous reelection in 1792, his second term was dominated by the Federalists. His Farewell Address on Sept. 17, 1796 (published but never delivered) rebuked party spirit and warned against “permanent alliances” with foreign powers.
He died at Mount Vernon on Dec. 14, 1799.

86WIVES
Nigerian advises against 86 wives
Mr Bello Abubakar says he does not go and find women, they come to him
Nigerian Mohammed Bello Abubakar, 84, has advised other men not to follow his example and marry 86 women.
The former teacher and Muslim preacher, who lives in Niger State with his wives and at least 170 children, says he is able to cope only with the help of God.
"A man with 10 wives would collapse and die, but my own power is given by Allah. That is why I have been able to control 86 of them," he told the BBC.
He says his wives have sought him out because of his reputation as a healer.
"I don't go looking for them, they come to me. I will consider the fact that God has asked me to do it and I will just marry them."
But such claims have alienated the Islamic authorities in Nigeria, who have branded his family a cult.
When you marry a man with 86 wives you know he knows how to look after them
Wife Ganiat Bello Abubakar
Most Muslim scholars agree that a man is allowed to have four wives, as long as he can treat them equally.
But Mr Bello Abubakar says there is no punishment stated in the Koran for having more than four wives.
"To my understanding the Koran does not place a limit and it is up to what your own power, your own endowment and ability allows," he says.
"God did not say what the punishment should be for a man who has more than four wives, but he was specific about the punishment for fornication and adultery."
'Order from God'
As Mr Bello Abubakar emerged from his compound to speak to the BBC, his wives and children broke out into a praise song.
Some of Mr Bello Abubakar's wives are younger than some of his children
Most of his wives are less than a quarter of his age - and many are younger than some of his own children.
The wives the BBC spoke to say they met Mr Bello Abubakar when they went to him to seek help for various illnesses, which they say he cured.
"As soon as I met him the headache was gone," says Sharifat Bello Abubakar, who was 25 at the time and Mr Bello Abubakar 74.
"God told me it was time to be his wife. Praise be to God I am his wife now."
Ganiat Mohammed Bello has been married to the man everyone calls "Baba" for 20 years.
When she was in secondary school her mother took her for a consultation with Mr Bello Abubakar and he proposed afterwards.
"I said I couldn't marry an older man, but he said it was directly an order from God," she says.
She married another man but they divorced and she returned to Mr Bello Abubakar.
"I am now the happiest woman on earth. When you marry a man with 86 wives you know he knows how to look after them," she said.
No work
Mr Bello Abubakar and his wives do not work and he has no visible means of supporting such a large family.
Many of the wives live three to a room, some have seven children
He refuses to say how he makes enough money to pay for the huge cost of feeding and clothing so many people.
Every mealtime they cook three 12kg bags of rice which all adds up to $915 (£457) every day.
"It's all from God," he says.
Other residents of Bida, the village where he lives in the northern Nigerian state, say they do not know how he supports the family.
According to one of his wives, Mr Bello Abubakar sometimes asks his children to go and beg for 200 naira ($1.69, £0.87), which if they all did so would bring in about $290 (£149).
Most of his wives live in a squalid, unfinished house in Bida; others live in his house in Lagos, Nigeria's commercial capital.
He refuses to allow any of his family or other devotees to take medicine and says he does not believe that malaria exists.
They were sick and we told God and God said their time has come
Wife Hafsat Bello Abubakar
"As you sit here if you have any illness I can see it and just remove it," he says.
But not everyone can be cured and one of his wives, Hafsat Bello Mohammed, says two of her children have died.
"They were sick and we told God and God said their time has come."
She says that most of the wives see Mr Bello Abubakar as next in line from the Prophet Muhammad.
Indeed, he claims the Prophet Muhammad speaks to him personally and gives detailed descriptions of his experiences.
It is a serious claim for a Muslim to make.
"This is heresy, he is a heretic," says Ustaz Abubakar Siddique, an imam of Abuja's Central Mosque.
